Williams House

The historic Williams House was purchased as part of the land acquisition for the new Downtown Village Center. The project has been the subject of attention in the new Historic Preservation Program in the Economic Development Division, but it isn't the first time the home was discussed by the City.

In 2002, NE 70th Street was reconstructed from Oak to Holmes using funds from a state beautification grant. As a result, regulation of the project was more stringent, and City staff conducted research on the surrounding properties. Until that time, it was not fully appreciated that the home at 6913 NE 70th Street actually had any historic significance. It turns out, the house is more than 75 years old, making it one of the oldest homes in Gladstone. Since Gladstone's history is relatively brief, this is an important factor.

Referred to as the "Williams House" because of the prior owners, this home is just what Gladstone needed as an accessory for the future downtown area. Full of charm and architecture, the home contains the details of the period, and has seen few disruptive remodels over the years.
